Creating a RAID 1 Array
RAID 1 array
can provide much more security because the mirror disk can replace the original
disk when the original disk is failed. If there are more than 1 single physical
disk (not a member of an array and not an ATAPI device or a removable disk),
users can select the Create RAID 1
menu or click the RAID 1 button to create a RAID 1 array. Follow a wizard to go through creating the array.
1. Select Disks: All the auto-detected available disks of your computer are listed in the Available Disk list box. Select an original disk and a mirror disk from the Available Disk list box.
2. Add a Spare Disk: If you have three available disks,
the Use a spare disk option allows you to select a spare disk for the
array.
3. Select one of the following
options. (Synchronize is the default option):
Initialize: Create a RAID 1 array using the two disks and clear all data on
them.
Synchronize: Create a RAID 1 array and duplicate all the data from the original disk to the mirror disk.
4. Specify Array Name: If you do not specify an array name, the system will assign a default name for the selected array automatically.
Note:
1. The
capacity of original disk must be smaller than the mirror disk, otherwise you
will get a warning message and must make the reselection.
2. The
capacity of spare disk must be more than that of the RAID 1 array, otherwise
you will get a warning message and reselect the disk.
3. The RAID 1 array is available when synchronizing.
