Web Manager User's Guide

Introduction

Thanks for obtaining the Web Manager. The Web Manager is shareware, not free software. You should carefully read the License Agreement before installing and using Web Manager..

Through the Internet browser, the Web Manager allows you to monitor and manage all remote and local PCs in your organization from your home or office computer. Web Manager can increase network administrative efficiency and reduce network maintenance cost. The Web Manager consists of three major components: Web Manager Client, Web Manager Administrator and Web Manager Magician.

The Web Manager Client is implemented as an HTTP server (or WWW server). Once the PC is installed with Web Manager Client (Client PC), network administrator can use Internet browser, such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer, to access the Client PC's critical information including:

You can also take a snapshot the Client PC's screen through the browser.

The Web Manager Administrator allows an easy and efficient management of Client PCs for network administrators. Instead of searching the Client PC one by one through the Internet browser, the Web Manager Administrator automatically searches all Client PCs on the same network and presents a simplified management interface.

The Web Manager Magician allows a network administrator to remotely wake up multiple sleeping PCs in a batch. Using the Web Manager Magician with the Scheduler provided by Windows, a network administrator can arrange the schedule to run the Web Manager Magician and the Web Manager Magician will remotely wake up multiple sleeping PCs in a batch.

For small to mid-sized networks, Web Manager Manager is the perfect PC and network management tool.

  3. Click Refresh anytime to start another search of the Client PCs.
2.2 Without Web Manager Administrator

Web Manager Administrator is not absolutely required to manage the Client PCs. You can use your favorite browser without any extra software or plug-ins. This is ideal solution if you are not using Navigator 4.0 or up or IE 4.0 or up.

Launch the browser and enter the Client PC's computer name or IP address in the Location or Address field. You will be asked to enter user name and password for authentication. Click OK with both user name and password fields blank if the Web Manager Client did NOT set the security check.

3. Using the Web Manager Administrator

Web Manager Administrator is a plug-in program written in HTML language that can be installed in any Windows 95/98/NT system and working with Netscape Navigator 4.0 or above and Microsoft IE 4.0 or above.

Launch the Web Manager Administrator from the Web Manager program folder and your system's default Internet browser will be activated. The Web Manager Administrator will automatically search the Client PCs on the same network for about 5 to 10 seconds after the Welcome page appears. The Web Manager Administrator interface is divided into two size-adjustable panels: the left panel is a list of found Client PCs and the right panel is the Client PC information.

Click the Client PC listed in the left panel and enter user name and password to access the Client's PC information.

Click Magic Packet to remotely wake up a sleeping PC on the network. The page of sending Magic Packet will appear in the right panel. There are two items in the page of sending Magic Packet: Broadcast IP and Ethernet ID. If you intend to send a Magic Packet across sub-network, you need to change the Broadcast IP from its default value 255.255.255.255 to the broadcast IP address of the destination sub-network that the managed PC resides. If the managed PC resides on the same network with the Web Manager Administrator, leave the default value 255.255.255.255 in the Broadcast IP field. Then please enter the Ethernet ID of the managed PC to be waken up and click Send button to send this Magic Packet. The managed PC in sleeping mode will be waken up upon receiving this Magic Packet.

Clink the Refresh to start another search of the Client PCs.

4. Using the Web Manager Magician

Web Manager Magician is a plug-in program written in HTML language that can be installed in any Windows 95/98/NT system and working with Netscape Navigator 4.0 or above and Microsoft IE 4.0 or above.

Edit the MAGICPKT.INI file in the Web Manager program folder according to the instructions and examples listed in that file to specify the managed PCs in sleeping mode that will be waken up. Once the Web Manager Magician is launched, it will read information from the MAGICPKT.INI file and send a Magic Packet to each managed PC specified in the MAGICPKT.INI file. The managed PC in sleeping mode will be waken up upon receiving this Magic Packet.
